Seasonal Facilities Assistant

Located in the beautiful Hudson River Valley, Mohonk Preserve is New York’s largest nonprofit nature preserve. We manage over 8,200 acres of mountain cliffs, forests, fields and streams through four integrated programs – Conservation, Education, Stewardship, and Visitor Experience – and welcome over 300,000 members and visitors each year who come to hike, run, rock climb, boulder, bike, enjoy winter recreation and experience nature.

About the Position:
The Seasonal Facilities Assistant part-time (PT) helps to maintain the facilities and grounds of the Mohonk Preserve. The SFA is charged with maintaining buildings, lawns, trails and entry ways of the Preserve to a high standard of upkeep. The SFA also participates in other projects and duties as needed. The seasonal employment of this position is expected to work up to 20 hours per week not to exceed 500 hours for the season of high visitation and warmer weather – April through November. Flexible hours available.
Primary Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Maintains condition of Visitor Center, access ways, restrooms and other public areas of the Preserve
- Grounds maintenance includes but is not limited to mowing, trimming, edging, path maintenance, weeding, raking, pruning, snow/ice removal, and other seasonal grounds maintenance tasks.
- Conducts interior “cleaning” and maintenance (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning etc.).
What You’ll Bring:

- Operation and basic maintenance of gasoline powered equipment, mowers, saws, weed whackers
- Janitorial skills that assure a clean and presentable environment for the public
- Minor carpentry, plumbing and general building maintenance skills preferred
- Ability to follow all safety precautions
- Punctual, dependable and committed to the Mohonk Preserve’s mission

MINIMUM Qualifications:
- Combination of training and experience that meets the outlined skills and experience, or High School Diploma, or equivalent and 1 to 2 years of experience in labor-intensive maintenance work
Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform strenuous labor for the duration of the workday
- May require sitting, standing, walking, hiking, climbing stairs, stooping, bending, carrying equipment
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Frequently works outdoors for extended periods performing physical labor in all weather conditions
Total Rewards Package:
This is an hourly, part-time position
- Salary: $16 – $18 per hour

Eligibility for certain benefits is dependent upon a variety of factors including length of employment.
Location:
Mohonk Preserve’s main offices are located at our Visitor Center in Gardiner, NY. Candidates must be able to work on-site to fulfill the daily duties of the position. Generally standard working hours, with some flexibility, to be coordinated with the supervisor. Mohonk Preserve is a smoke-free campus.
