Adult Self-Guided Group Visits
Adult group visits are available on a first-come, first-served basis and require payment of the standard day entry fee. Discounts are not available. Youth Self-Guided Weekday Group Visits

A group is defined as 10 or more people, with a maximum of 30, including leaders. Discounted rate opportunity for eligible youth group visits.

  • Youth community and school groups can explore the land, trails, and carriage roads for self-guided recreational and educational purposes.
  • A minimum of one adult chaperone is required for every eight minors.
  • Youth groups (under 19 years of age) must apply for a permit at least ten business days in advance to receive a discounted rate.
  • Groups must be affiliated with a recognized organization to qualify for the discount.
  • The weekday, non-holiday discounted rate for eligible youth organizations is $8 per person.
  • Group permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Complete the application and submit it along with the Certificate of Liability Insurance and payment, either via email or by mail, to Mohonk Preserve.
  • Permits will be issued via email on a first come, first serve basis.
  • The group discounted rate is not available during weekends, holidays and hunting season.
  • Discounts are not available for group climbing; refer to our climbing page for climbing group visits.
  • Group biking and horseback riding are not permitted on the carriage roads and trails of Mohonk Preserve at any time.
  • Permits allow access to Mohonk Preserve trailheads and trails but do not include entry to Mohonk Mountain House property, which is privately owned and managed. This includes areas such as the Lemon Squeeze and Skytop Tower.

Group Requirements

Each group must have a designated leader and an end-of-line “sweep.”

Leader Responsibilities:

    • Be familiar with the Preserve’s land and trails and be able to read and follow a map.
    • Choose and maintain a route that is safe and suitable for all participants.
    • Present the permit at the trailhead and carry it for identification while on the Preserve.
    • Use designated trailheads for entry and exit, staying within permitted areas.
    • Remain on marked trails and carriage roads.
    • Keep the group together at all times.
    • Follow Leave No Trace principles—carry out everything brought in.

Permits grant access to Mohonk Preserve trailheads and trails but do not include entry to Mohonk Mountain House property, including the Lemon Squeeze and Skytop Tower, which are privately owned and managed.
