Using, Enjoying, and Protecting the Wild in Wilderness – Approaches and Anchors Webinar

December 4 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

As we observe the 60th Anniversary of the US Wilderness Act, we are reminded that wilderness has always had its critics. In addition to long-standing detractors (logging, mining and energy industries), wilderness is also criticized by “new conservation” groups calling for more active environmental management, recreation groups wanting more permissive access and uses and Indigenous communities seeking land restitution and sovereignty. In this talk, ecologist Eric Keeling will argue that the path to reconciliation of these diverse and internally conflicting pressures on wilderness can be found in the Wilderness Act itself, and the values it protects. This is a free virtual program. A link will be sent upon registration.
