Education
Serving the Hudson Valley region since 1985, our environmental education program welcomes nearly 9,000 adults and children annually. We foster a special connection to nature that strengthens commitment to protecting the environment for today and the future.
For more than two decades, our sequential, K-6th grade field study program has brought children back to the Ridge over a seven-year period, inspiring them to become lifelong learners in the natural and social sciences.
The award-winning NatureAccess program has become a national model for parks, preserves, and governmental agencies seeking to make their outdoor programs accessible to ALL visitors, including those with disabilities.Guided Field Studies: Come to the Ridge!Available weekdays seasonally, the Preserve’s field study offerings will give your class the opportunity to explore nature through fun, hands-on programs led by an experienced Preserve Educator.
Outreach Programs: The Ridge Comes to You!
The Preserve’s traveling classroom brings the natural wonders of the Shawangunk Ridge and its wildlife right to your school!
 Summer Camps for the Earthwatcher
Preserve nature and adventure day camps provide children ages 7-13 with opportunities to discover the outdoors in a fun and caring environment. Based on our award-winning field studies program, each camp enhances children’s understanding of nature and conservation, while supporting their personal growth and development. Public Programs, Lectures & Workshops

Programs for families and individuals are offered on weekends, and occasional weeknights, throughout the year. Topics range from interpretive nature walks to wildlife workshops to lecture on current scientific findings.
Teacher Trainings in Environmental Education Offering both pre- and in-service teacher trainings, the Preserve provides one-time workshops and a 3-credit, graduate course on a variety of topics in environmental and outdoor education, including: • Teacher Workshops: Project WILD, Project WILD Aquatic, WILD School Sites, Project WILD: Science & Civics, and Selected Topics in Natural and Cultural History. • 3-Credit Graduate Course in Environmental Education • Making Outdoor Programs Accessible
